Thanksgiving Recipe Round-up!

With the big day less than a week away… I’m putting alllll my favorite Thanksgiving ready recipes in one place – this post. Its feels like a pretty perfunctory blogger thing to do. But, I love reading recipe round-ups on other bloggers’ sites.  I get ideas from those posts all the time!  Since you are here, we probably have at least food in common.  So, here you go: a collection of my favorite Thanksgiving appetizers, salads, vegetarian sides, and desserts! Appetizers Honey Candied Pecans Thanksgiving is a heavy meal!  So I keep the appetizers to a minimum.  Since, I’ll be making these salad toppings, why not make extra for snacking!…

Persimmon Walnut Cream Tart with Shortbread Crust

You can always make pumpkin pie.  Or pecan.  Or you can switch things up a bit.  In truth, we almost never stick with the pumpkin/pecan staples.  And I’m not saying you should follow suite.  But when Thanksgiving doesn’t look all that traditional around here, why should dessert?  How about a persimmon tart with a walnut cream frangipane, and a much-easier-than-pie-crust shortbread crust?!  Plus, shortbread crust is roughly 10 times tastier and 100x less fickle than pie crust. I have the brownest brown thumb around and am in complete awe of what they grow!  They should be so proud!  The season’s abundance is seriously striking!  Instead of pride, I see tired eyes and muscles – the wear of the season’s work beginning to show.  Since I can hardly keep succulents alive, I can’t fathom the workload! This post is the first…

Being a Conscious Consumer + prAna

The terms sustainability and conscious consumerism get peppered into conversations and onto the page a lot.  By “a lot,” I mean they are everywhere.  Who you ask determines what they mean.  In fairness, the terms can refer to many things, which isn’t bad.  In fact, its good! I think the most compelling arguments for each exist amidst these intersecting definitions. When its a question of sustainability, my personal philosophy starts by asking myself the following questions. How does this practice impact:  the environment or ecosystem? others (the people who produce, grow, or participate)? myself or my body? the future? When it comes to being a conscious consumer, I ask very similar questions.…
