Christmas Morning Breakfast Round-Up

There are few mornings I look forward too as much as Christmas morning.  I’m not a 5 year old at heart.  In fact, I’m probably more like 80 years old at heart. Allow me to paint a little visual for you…. A morning that is forced into slow motion is a rarity in our house.  Work schedules, early morning conference calls and dogs that do not know how to take a day off from running pretty much kill our slow mornings at home most of the time.  Nothing sounds more wonderful on a cold winter morning than freely pouring cup after cup of tea or french press around the Christmas…

Rosemary Cardamom Spiced Nuts

Who doesn’t love a good spiced nut mix?  Ok, maybe people allergic to nuts.  But aside from them??  I love everything from raw nuts to nut butters, but my very favorite are spiced roasted nuts.  I could easily make meals out of them.  Holiday parties are the best opportunity to break out the spiced roasted nuts!  This version is mild yet flavorful and so dang addicting!  I may or may not have camped out next to them at a party recently. All in all, there could be worse things to park yourself next to than mixed nuts.  Booze?  Cookies?  Tubs of ice-cream?  Aside from a pile of veggies, I’m thinking…

Shaved Brussels Sprouts Salad with Apples, Candied Pecans, and Dijon-Thyme Vinaigrette

I have to say, the culinary comeback of the brussels sprout is pretty spectacular.  What trendy neighborhood spot worth its salt doesn’t have a roasted brussels sprout on their apps list?  Not many…. If you were a child of the 80s and 90s, you probably remember the unseasoned steamed variety.  I hated them.  I probably still would.  Who would want green steamed mush?  Or worse yet, when they weren’t all the way cooked and the parents demanded I eat my veggies.  Mush or partially raw woody sprouts?  Not sure which I hated more. So with a million delicious varieties of roasted sprouts making a comeback in recent years,  myself and…

Stuffed Acorn Squash

When I was a kid, my favorite Thanksgiving food was stuffing! My family makes a sage stuffing recipe. I thought it was heaven on earth.   Probably because I had no idea other types of stuffing existed! When I discovered the wonders of oyster stuffing and sausage-apple stuffing, my eyes were opened to the world of options! My mom and extended family really like their staples. They rarely venture far from them. They make this stuffing with bread that I can only describe as the most basic white sandwich bread you can buy. Friends, what happens to basic white sandwich bread when it gets even a tiny bit wet? It turns…

Girls Night in 5: Rolled Pumpkin Baklava

Girls’ Night in 5 is a monthly “how-to” series containing Girls’ Night friendly recipes with 5 or fewer ingredients and no more than 5 minutes of active prep!  This series is part of my mission to simplify entertaining to encourage readers to invest in their community through hosting and loving people well. While I have always loved baklava, the notion of all those paper thin layers of fillo looked intimidating.  Until I discovered a much simpler rolled baklava technique! This technique uses only uses 5 sheets per to create each rolled baklava log!  So so so much easier and just as delicious! Since its fall, I wanted to incorporate some…
