Top Healthy Meal Recipes

The “New Year – New You!” health kick every January is certainly nothing revolutionary.  People throw around trendy of-the-moment diets. Or boldly state, “I’m cutting out _______.”  Or “I’m going to exercise ____ times per week.”  Goals are great!  Structure is great!  And, if having a set diet, number, or system helps you achieve your health goals, feel better, have more energy, or accomplish whatever you set out to achieve, then more power to you! I tend to avoid strict limitations and overt rules when it comes to my diet or the foods I feed our family.  Instead, I find thoughtful meal planning of healthful meals works best for us.…

Creamy Cauliflower and Parsnip Soup with Herb Garlic Finishing Oil

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with lots of overindulgence, loads of stuffing, a mountain of mashed potatoes, and leftovers coming out your ears.  We are still working our way through the turkey.  And I see all of these wonderful ideas for using up your turkey.  And we have given some of them a try in the past, but to be honest, I’m happy with adding it on top of a salad, and the husband will tell you that there is nothing quite like a leftover Thanksgiving turkey sandwich with mayo, sourdough bread, kosher salt, and fresh cracked pepper.  The boy could eat that morning, noon, and night…

Holiday Greens! Roasted Brussels Sprouts – 3 ways!

Roasted brussels sprouts are having a moment.  Or maybe more than a moment.  A year?  2 years?  Either way, they veg has come a looooong way since the bland steamed version my mom served us in the 90s.  Because of those memories, I thought I hated Brussels sprouts for a solid decade.  But then I discovered roasted sprouts and fell in love.  I’m pretty sure the rest of the internet and every corner pub with a decent appetizer list fell in love with them too.  Since they are on every appetizer list, Pinterest, and food mags. I know loads of people are scouring the inter-web for roasted sprouts recipes because…

Creamy Cauliflower and White Bean Hummus + JORD Wood Watches

Any gathering where guests mill about pre-meal with a beverage in hand feels like there should be at least a light appetizer.  Right?  As a host, it seems irresponsible to pour wine so freely while guests’ bellies are empty….. Unless, of course, the gathering is Thanksgiving – the most infamously carb-heavy day of the year.  So much eating.  So much food.  So much post meal food-coma!  Do we really need an appetizer too?? If your friends are anything like ours, they arrive early and stay late.  Thanksgiving dinner (which we serve mid-afternoon) is an all day affair.  Appetizers feel like overkill with all the mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted sweet potatoes,…
