2017 was quite a year for the hubs and I.  Things we expected to happen didn’t.  Things we didn’t expect, did. I believe this is what they call L-I-F-E, folks. And it never ceases to surprise me.

For real, 2017 was a year of both challenges and rewards!  In hindsight, I am immensely grateful for those challenges and closed doors, but in the moment, I would have answered differently.  While I still hold the specific details close, the hubs and I were floored by the love, support, and rallying of our friends and family.  This past year proved that friends truly can be family!  And, hoy cow, were they incredible!  When it felt my prayers were falling on deaf ears or my spirit too broken, our friends rallied.  They showed up!  My mental health for the first half of 2017 is a testament to their support!

Every year has its struggles, and the first bit of 2017 was a doozy.  Thats not to say 2017 was a bad year!  It certainly wasn’t!  The growth this little site of mine has seen over the past year is incredible to me!  I am so-so grateful and want to continue to make AlmostProperly.com better, more navigable, and providing you with quality content!  I have big plans (and goals!) for the site in 2018. I so very appreciate you following along!!

If there is anything in particular you would like to see more/less of in the new year, please let me know in the comments or shoot me an email!  (maria@almostprroperly.com)

Let’s see.  2017 brought….

….An unexpected move to a super fun neighborhood!  I’ll be sharing more details and a tour of our 100+ year-old house soon-ish (Optimistically, January, but lets be real, probably February!)  You guys, I am excited to show off how freaking talented the hubs is at making what I imagine in my head into reality!  That boy is crazy skilled.

….A new family member of the four-legged variety!

…Back to the 49th and 50th states.

….And many more adventures.

I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2018!  Earlier this week, I posted the top recipes of 2017 based on “the stats.”  Of course, I was surprised by some of the recipes making the list, but I was FLOORED to see a roasted brussel sprout recipe steal the top spot again!

So, I wanted to share my own top 10 list of the year!  When I planned this post, it sounded like a great idea.  Easy peasy, I thought.  A couple of top contenders came to mind immediately, but I didn’t expect narrowing it down to be so dang hard.  Cutting a few of my favorites out of the top 10 felt like chopping off a limb!  Nonetheless, chop-chop-chop I did.

So, in no particular order (because ranking them would make me batty): My top 10 favorite recipe posts of 2017!

Grown-up “Twix” Bars

One of my very-very favorite recipes of the year… This tender tahini shortbread, gooey salted caramel, and dark chocolate layer bar is like a grown-up version of a “Twix” candy bar, but so-so-so much better!  To the recipe…

Pecan Sticky Buns

I love a good pecan sticky bun, but these are the absolute best!  The level of gooey, caramelly goodness is out of control and the brioche dough is not only incredible tasting but incredibly easy to make!  To the recipe…

Mediterranean Roasted Ling Cod

This recipe made the reader’s top ten list as well and I am so glad!  This mediterranean tapenade is ridiculously good and you all know I love mediterranean and middle eastern flavors!!  Ling cod is a super easy to make fish with incredible flavor and numerous health benefits!  To the recipe…

Loaded Blueberry Salad with Coconut Bacon

My go-to summer salads can basically be summed up in two categories: berries and stone fruit.  This fully loaded salad is one of my all time favorites!  Come blueberry season, you’ll know where to find me!  To the recipe…

Mediterranean Mother’s Day Feast: Moroccan Chicken + The Sauces and Toppings

Ok, so technically it was two posts that went together… but this sheet pan meal is so freaking loaded with flavor and makes a deceptively simple, amazing, show stopping dinner!  I LOVE making it for guests because its so interactive, fun, and crazy delicious!  I’ve even made it on my OWN birthday before!  To the Moroccan Chicken...  To the sauces and toppings…

My Favorite Apple Pie

Apple pie is one of my very favorite desserts and this is my very favorite recipe for it!  It has the butteriest, tastiest, flakiest crust too boot!  And folks, brown sugar 100% belongs in apple pie.  My family never made it this way, so a few years back, this revelation was like the heavens opening up.  So don’t let anyone tell you otherwise;)   To the recipe…

Grilled Carrots and Green Onions with Lemony Tahini Sauce

This summer we grilled almost every veggie under the sun and experimented with sauces galore, but this was a unanimous favorite!  Make way-way more than you think you will need because everyone will be going back for seconds.  To the recipe…

Rhubarb-Strawberry Blondies with White Chocolate Chunks

When I die, I will have a lot of questions for God, but one of them would be: Why does rhubarb season have to be so short?  In the PNW, where summer doesn’t hit until July, rhubarb is basically the best part of spring.  These gooey bars are a fan-freaking-tastic use of rhubarb!  You might think you will only eat one or two… but if you are a rhubarb lover like myself, you will be wrong my friend.  To the recipe…

Pumpkin Pasta with Pecan Sage Finishing Oil

This handmade pumpkin pasta is tossed with sage and pecan olive oil and it is out of control good.  This was one of our very favorite fall dinners this year.  The hubs isn’t into pumpkin but loved this.  If you are feeling fancy, use a little plate of this at a dinner party after the salad and before the protein.  But lets face, it I’m not fancy, and multi-courses are more my mom’s era than mine.  So serve it whenever you like, and it will be amazing.  Vegan friendly, too!  To the recipe…

Peach Burrata Salad with Champagne Vinaigrette

A lot of my favorite memories have happened in the midst of stone fruit season.  Thus peach juice dripping down my chin is often part of the memory.  This salad is the embodiment of the best and brightest of everything about summer: stone fruit, basil, blueberries, fresh mint leaves…  Plus a big ol’ ball of burrata cheese on top certainly doesn’t hurt!  To the recipe…
