Its a new year, and conventional wisdom tells us that now is the time to make new habits and break old ones.  I’ll be honest, I am not much of a new years resolution gal.  I am more of an “In 2017, I would like to accomplish ______.” kind of goal setter.  Luckily, my husband is wired the same way.  Thankfully, I have yet to begin a new year with some funky fad diet or a doomed-to-fail daily activity.  And, as great as building new habits is, I am not about to make 2017 the year where I break my perfect record of successful non-resolutions.

So instead, I want to share with you something that I have been doing nearly every day for some time now, and it makes me feel aaaah-mazing!  And wakes me up more than coffee!    Its full of lemon, ginger, and cayenne which are known metabolism boosters and are believed to do gooooood things for your immune system as well.  Morning yoga while sipping this stuff has become one of my favorite parts of the day!!

I have read that in order to maximize the metabolism boosting benefits, this needs to be your first thing other than water you drink each morning.  In particular, caffeinated beverages mess with the metabolism boosting properties of this “tea.”

My brother and I swear by this concoction when we are sick as well.  Just add honey. The glucose in honey may mess with the metabolism boosting properties, but on a sore throat, it works wonders my friends.  And when I am sick, its the only thing I want.

Morning Metabolism Boosting Tea

Total Time: 5 minutes

Yield: 16 oz.

    For 16 oz. mason jar size:
  • Add juice from 1/2 lemon (I throw the 1/2 juiced lemon in as well)
  • 2 inch piece of ginger, thinly sliced
  • pinch of cayenne pepper

Heat water in a tea kettle until boiling/whistling. Remove kettle from heat.

Add lemon juice, juiced lemon half, sliced ginger and a cayenne to jar or similarly sized heat-proof glass.

Then add water to jar, give it a stir, and enjoy!
