Sour Cream and Chive Deviled Eggs

The holidays are BUSY.  Its really easy to be go-go-going all of the places and doing all of the things, and whoops, you forgot a lll about that party you are supposed to go to tomorrow.  The one where you you agreed to bring an appetizer…  Yea, THAT party. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!!  Sour Cream and Chive Deviled Eggs!!!  I started making these almost 10 years ago when I was in college because they are: Cheap!  (Eggs, ya’ll!) Easy (If you can boil eggs and mash things together, then you’re set!) Don’t require any fancy equipment (pan to boil the eggs, knife, bowl, and fork) And can…

Thick and Gooey Salted Caramel Dip

I’m not sure what combination of events lead up to this.  It certainly wasn’t a conscious effort.  I’m guessing living and growing up in Washington state played a large part?  And maybe always being on the go?  But I love apples.  Scratch that, I could probably be categorized as an apple nerd.  I would estimate that 95% of the time, my lunch consists of some combination of an apple and almond butter, peanut butter, or a handful of raw nuts.  I am not sure why I haven’t gotten sick of it or out grown it because I been eating it with regular frequency for well over 10 years.  While other…

Southwestern Style Sweet Potato Dip

The only thing as quintessentially “Fall” as the color changing leaves is football.  In full disclosure, I do not live in Texas, the southeast, or even the midwest.  I hear people are football crazy in those parts!  But, up here in Seattle where we are best known for ferry boats, rain, fish, coffee, and REI, we have become fully afflicted with the football “bug.”  Undoubtedly, in no small part, due to the recent successes of the Seahawks.  As a result, I find myself in the company of a football crazed city.   1:00pm on Sunday afternoons begins 3 hours of time so sacred it has been blocked out in iPhone…

The Best Turkey Green Chili

For me, on rare occasions, I will make something that just tastes like it belongs.  It feels like home.  I don’t mean the home I grew up in or even food from my background.  I mean that it is a dish that I know will be made over and over again for many many years to come.  It will be a staple in our family’s repertoire; the meal we gather around for game nights, make for parties, and crave after we have been away.  Its not something fancy, but might as well be fillet mignon.  Do you have a dish like that?  Your “home” dish? I do.  It’s this Green…

Skillet Cornbread

Cornbread is one of those comfort foods that never falls out of style or out of season.  Its the Levi’s jeans of side dishes.  It’s equally acceptable alongside a pile of barbecued ribs in the summer and a bowl of chili after the weather has begun to turn.  Like a biscuit, its even acceptable at breakfast!  This was just as true 20 years ago as it is today. I’ll admit I love cornbread.  I build entire meals around it!  Where do you stand?  Love it, hate it, or somewhere in the middle?  I don’t know that I have ever met someone who truly hated cornbread, but I have met many…
