Fridays in Lent: Meatless One-Pot Meals

Growing up in a big Catholic Italian family, makes the season of Lent as much cultural as it is religious.  Even though I no longer practice faith from the Catholic tradition, lent and the practices around it remain.  This 40 day period begins on Ash Wednesday (which was Wednesday, February 14th this year… Hello, Valentine’s Day!) and continues until Easter.  It commemorates 40 days of prayer and fasting Jesus spent in the dessert. Most of my family members gives up something (usually chocolate, coffee, sweets, or alcohol) individually for the duration of lent.  Outside of a food-motivated Italian family, I know people who have given up gossip, social media, or…

Gift-able Holiday Treats!

Who made a rule saying homemade holiday gifts must involve either hot glue-guns or hot cocoa mix with mini marshmallows?  I certainly don’t subscribe to this philosophy.  And frankly, don’t plan to.  I do not have fond memories of hot glue guns or cliches (i.e. hot cocoa mix). Holiday Gift Guide

Christmas shopping is hard.  I do my best to support local small businesses, but I don’t know what I would do without the internet.  Fight traffic or buy it online for the same price or better?  No-brainer. I know there are a million gift guides out there, so I wanted to approach mine a little differently.  I only chose categories that I personally can shimmy myself into. I have to say, I’m feeling confident in my suggestions because I either own or have been eyeing each of these products.  I think other people would love them too!  So without further adieu: The Almost Properly Holiday Gift Guide – 2017! *Items…

LOVE PEOPLE WELL: Swedish Almond Ring

This post is part of the Love People Well series.  The focus of this series is on easily shareable, transportable, and giftable foods.  Its an invitation to spread a little love to our friends and neighbors in a simple and tangible way. One month ago, we moved.  One month in, it still feels almost as chaotic and unpacked.  Multiple rooms are “works-in-progress” which means several other rooms are stuffed with yet-to-be-unpacked moving boxes.  So. many. moving. boxes.  But, you guys, we are living amidst the chaos and loving it!! We semi-organized about 25% of the house enough to host Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving in a moderately civilized fashion.  Hello, real plates, silverware, and grown-up food!…
