Rosemary Cardamom Spiced Nuts

Who doesn’t love a good spiced nut mix?  Ok, maybe people allergic to nuts.  But aside from them??  I love everything from raw nuts to nut butters, but my very favorite are spiced roasted nuts.  I could easily make meals out of them.  Holiday parties are the best opportunity to break out the spiced roasted nuts!  This version is mild yet flavorful and so dang addicting!  I may or may not have camped out next to them at a party recently. All in all, there could be worse things to park yourself next to than mixed nuts.  Booze?  Cookies?  Tubs of ice-cream?  Aside from a pile of veggies, I’m thinking…

Mexican Chocolate Pie with Gingersnap Crust

The husband is a cake and cream pie person in a fruit pie family.  Apple pie, rhubarb pie, and, in my brother’s case, cherry pie are the most common birthday dessert requests.  He doesn’t think fruit belongs in dessert.  (Except a mysterious exception is granted to peach cobbler.) Around the holidays, apple, pumpkin, & pecan pies are of course making frequent appearances at the extended family gatherings.  I.E. Lots of non-cream pies and certainly no cake. During our first Thanksgiving as newlyweds, I was tasked with pies.  My plan was apple and pumpkin (even I hate pecan).  The hubs was having none of this fruit pie non-sense, so he decided…

Thyme Roasted Carrots with Maple Dijon Glaze

Colorful roasted vegetables are always welcome on my table.  Especially during the holidays!  These roasted carrots are beyond delicious!  We ate a lot of superbly awesome things on Thanksgiving… but when the roasted vegetable is hogging all of the “What’s the recipe?” side-dish hype, you know its a winner. These roasted carrots are easy to make and topped with an addicting maple dijon glaze!  Perfect for a the holidays…. and a weeknight! I’ll be sitting out the hosting on Christmas day, but I am forever and always the salad, roasted veg, and dessert gal for our fam’s Christmas gathering.  So get ready folks, I’m bringing my A-game with these roasted carrots!…

LOVE PEOPLE WELL: Swedish Almond Ring

This post is part of the Love People Well series.  The focus of this series is on easily shareable, transportable, and giftable foods.  Its an invitation to spread a little love to our friends and neighbors in a simple and tangible way. One month ago, we moved.  One month in, it still feels almost as chaotic and unpacked.  Multiple rooms are “works-in-progress” which means several other rooms are stuffed with yet-to-be-unpacked moving boxes.  So. many. moving. boxes.  But, you guys, we are living amidst the chaos and loving it!! We semi-organized about 25% of the house enough to host Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving in a moderately civilized fashion.  Hello, real plates, silverware, and grown-up food!…

Hosting with Sanity

This is an unedited i-phone camera kind of post.  Because life isn’t always photoshopped, folks.  😉 The day before Thanksgiving is always and forever TG prep day around here.  Hosting is work.  There’s no way around it.  And type A personalities like me always want to add more and do more.  My mantra is and always has been: you can never be too prepared.  Except that when you are wired like me, you can drive yourself insane trying. Instead of driving myself into the ground, I am staying sane by building time in to take care of myself.  I’m not skipping my morning run or yoga.  As I write this,…
