Until our recent move, our house was fairly small.  Big kitchen, but small otherwise.  We had a massive back deck and patio perfect for the summer months, but since this is Seattle, we have essentially 3 seasons: rainy, rainy and cold, and summer!

But, since we aren’t big on limiting the our number “Come on over!” invitations.  Not to mention the sheer size of my Italian family.  Our little bungalow wasn’t exactly built for massive numbers.  Forget about obvious dilemmas like seating; we are talking sheer spacial scarcity.  Woah, that sounded overly scientific, but you get the picture.  Lots of people crammed into a small space can be um….(What’s a nice way to say cramped?) cozy?

Easy to serve, eat, and clean-up one-pot meals became my standard.  Its a million times easier and more practical in a small space to make a giant pot of something and tell people to have at it than it is to have multiple dishes, that need their own babysitter to stay replenished and warm as people help themselves.  So I became a bit of a one pot meal nerd.  How many interesting things that people actually want to eat can I make and serve in one pot?

Well, it turns out the answer is a whole heck of a lot of things.  Keeping a pot warm over low heat so people can serve up and come back for seconds at their leisure rather than in one massive wave was our recipe for small house hosting.

Basically any hearty soup, curry, or chili that can be served in a bowl is up for grabs.  Here are 8 of my Winter faves!
